Frequently Asked Question

How much notice do we need?

Once a physician has cleared the client for travel and a receiving facility has been secured, we can organize travel plans within 48-72 hours of your initial phone call.

Are medical transports covered under insurance?
Medicare/Medicaid:

Medicare will not reimburse for non-emergency transportation. They will only pay for a medically necessary transport in an ambulance usually in an emergency situation. The need for a stretcher does not constitute medical necessity. It is fraudulent for an ambulance service to file for Medicare in a non-emergency setting and claim that they performed a procedure on a patient that did not do and we are not a Medicaid provider.

Why can't the flight attendant do this?
Many flight attendants are trained in basic emergency care. But:

1-The flight attendant also has a few other people to please, all the other people on the plane.

2-The flight attendant may recognize a medical emergency, but does not have the  skills to determine what is causing the emergency, based on the passenger's medical history

3-The reason for having a medical escort in the first place is to recognize the client's deterioration early, and prevent an emergency from occurring. By the time a flight attendant recognizes a case of severe oxygen desaturation, damage may already have occurred.

4-A trained escort who knows the client's history and initial assessment can better maintain the client's condition, as well as providing comfort on an ongoing basis.

Can someone travel on a commercial flight if they are unresponsive?
In 1st class a business class reclining seats with footrests or stretcher service can be arranged. For 1st class travel, our staff can safely support the patient when seated upright for take-off and landing. Thereafter,   the patient is fully reclined in a sleeping position for the remainder of the flight.

Can someone travel on a commercial flight if they are non-ambulatory?

Most of our clients are unable to ambulate onto the aircraft or within the aircraft cabin. Special arrangements   are made to safely transfer the client on and off the aircraft, to their seat, or to their stretcher.

Can someone travel on a commercial flight if they have complex oxygen needs?

A commercial airline can generally provide for supplemental in-flight oxygen within 48 hours of making the request. However, each carrier has specific guidelines as well as limitations with the amount that they can provide. Your flight staff will be able to monitor and regulate your oxygen requirements with the use of a portable oxygen monitoring device

How much does it cost to travel on a commercial flight with a medical escort vs. an air ambulance?

The cost will vary depending on the distance and days traveled. Generally, someone can travel on a commercial airline within the 50 states for approximately $3,500.00 to $8,000.00 and to International destinations for approximately $6,000.00 to $18,000.00 all inclusive of first class air and ground travel costs for both staff and patient.
Respectively, traveling with a private air ambulance could range from $10,000.00 to $90,000.00

How do the Price maintain ?

It is always our goal to provide the highest quality service at the lowest possible cost.
